Canelo Bed & Breakfast

Located in Southeastern Arizona at the base of the Huachuca Mountains, Canelo is 17 miles south of Sonoita and 15 miles west of SierraVista.
The Canelo B&B guest house is located next to the main house on a 40-acre parcel surrounded by National Forest, the Audubon Research ranch and the Nature Conservancy. It looks directly out onto the cottonwood-lined Turkey Creek which flows 10 months out of the year (always dry May and June and more depending on the rainfall.)
The riparian area around the creek draws many species of wildlife and birds. This is an ideal spot for hiking, birding, enjoying peace and seclusion.

At an elevation of 5000 feet Canelo enjoys a mild climate year-round. However, we are NOT the same climate as Tucson. We are regularly 10 degrees cooler than Tucson both in the summer and winter. Average daytime temperature in July & August (our rainy season) is 85 degrees F. Our hottest month is June with temperatures in the mid to high 90's. Daytime temperatures in the winer (Nov.-Feb.) range from 40 to 60 degress F. The winter nights are generally below freezing between late October and March. We have snow about three times a year (about 4 inches) but it almost never lasts on the ground for more than a day.
This colorful 800 sq. ft. ADOBE guest house has a small living room, fully equiped kitchen, two bedrooms and a bath. The main bedroom has a king-size bed. The second bedroom has two twin beds. There is also available a third room connected to the house by a porch but with a separate entrance. It has two twin beds that can also be converted to a king-size bed. All three rooms share one bath with a shower.

Rates include a Southwest Mexican style breakfast. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans, dishes, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, stove, and a full-size refrigerator. There are restaurants and stores in Sierra Vista and Sonoita, both half an hour away. Occasionally we can also arrange dinners for an additional charge.

Guest House RATES:

One or Two Bedrooms: $120/night

with Extra Bedroom: $150/night

We have 3 boys - a 14 year old, an 12 year old, and a 4 year old. They are homeschooled and therefore available to play at all times. The place is equipped with rope swings, slides, and sand boxes.

Nearby attractions include the wineries of Elgin (20 min), historic Bisbee & Tombstone (1 hr), Fort Huachuca (15min), Nogales, Mexico (1hr-15 min), Patagonia (45 min) and the new Kartchner Caverns (45 min.)

There is also scenic hiking in all directions. The photo below is a view of the Mustang Mountains from the top of the hill behind the main Canelo complex.

The Canelo B&B is run by The Canelo Project, a small non-profit organization, dedicated to connecting people, culture and nature. Its work includes exploring natural building techniques that are simple, low-cost and artful.

On-site and open for viewing are several small structures that demonstrate creative uses of straw, clay, lime and stone, bamboo and other local materials.
