|the sawdust toilet|
|This wattle and daub outhouse is made with reed mats woven around juniper poles. It is plastered on the outside with lime-clay and clay and sand on the interior.
The sawdust toilet inside costs a lot less than a composting toilet and a lot less digging than an outhouse.
|A handful of sawdust after every use eliminates odors. When the bucket is full the contents can be emptied into a compost pile. We use it to fertilize our bamboo.|
|An enthusiastic group of students from Earlham College added their own sculptural touches plus helped finish the plastering and painting.|
