Poem's House

This 200 sq. ft. interior sleeping space with bathroom was built in 1990 during our first straw bale workshop.
It is a passive solar design. The south glass allows the winter sun in. The center adobe wall and bench provide good thermal mass helping to keep the room warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

This adobe wall curves around to form a shower. The apple juice jars make inexpensive glass block. The interior of the shower is plastered with lime and frescoed blue green. It will then be sealed with olive oil soap.
The small bathroom is painted with casein paints. There is an earth floor sealed with linseed oil. The blue tiles are from Mexico.
A truth window in the plaster with clay molding reveals the three string bales on edge.
