Smaller blocks placed on end around the edge of the curved walls helps to add strength. All the straw/clay blocks were made ahead of time and sun dried. They are more insulative than normal adobes and much lighter weight. They are also more water resistant. A mixture of clay slip and straw (long straw for the larger blocks and chopped straw for the smaller blocks) is placed into forms. The forms are immediately removed and the blocks are left for several days do sun dry. The blocks are mortared together with a mixture of clay and chopped straw. |
